BRAVE (2012) Gales Entertainment Scale (GES) Rating: Bonding 10.
TMG Favorite Character? Merida The BRAVE!

- An Elderly Tale Told Anew! -

Fiddler On The Roof (1971) meets a story of breaking tradition on "How To Raise Your Dragon" (2012) wings in this exciting Walt Disney / Pixar Positively-Powered-Production! =) What truly has this film stand out among previous Walt Disney Classics like The Little Mermaid (1989) and The Lion King (1994) is an Avengers (2012) stylized streamline-storyline that the road to moving in any direction-- be it shattering tradition or saving our world-- relies not only on one heart or soul alone but rather... the collective cooperation (and inspiration to cooperate!) of groups of individuals! "The spark" indeed may be the actions of individuals within group--however the direction of negative or positive change--comes through the collaborative collective circumstances of choice and compassion. =)

One thing that honestly impresses me about BRAVE is that this Walt Disney Picture does indeed take a "Walt Disney Classic" approach-- but less the singing. (for better or worse. In the case of this film, I think for the better most certainly because the storyline honestly is rather intrinsically serious). Instead, the more modern day approach of "Music Video" like scenes (music playing in the foreground with little to no dialogue in style of the original fashion of films: silent-but-musical). The approach works very well for Walt Disney / Pixar's tale of those BRAVE. The synopsis however does seem to share a modern approach with a continuous theme of existence: Parental Guidance versus the Will of Their Children. (age not being a determining factor but rather the relationship of "Parent" to "Child" in gen.)

- Story Defines -

One thing that continues to be a theme in our world is how "tales define" our very choices. =)
There is a sequence where several "potential suitors" (i.e. Walt Disney Aladdin Style) are aligned
and presented to Princess Merida's family. Each tells a tale of why "this family's son..." should be
selected as Merida's Marrying partner which is accompanied by a tale of chivalry or bravery that is
meant allegorically to say..."he will protect her" or "she will learn a lot from him" or "they'll match well."

The one-sided view of this allegory however is that it is the parents presenting their sons and daughters in the film
BRAVE rather than the Daughter or Son presenting herself or himself to each family. My personal thoughts during scenes like this is
"What does what he or she has done have to do with what he or she will later will do?"
However, the "selfish-one-sided-view" takes two-sides in this film.

(Walt Disney's) Aladdin Reversed

BRAVE is indeed in my very humble opinion a modern "reverse tale" of Walt Disney's Aladdin from 1992. The themes of "Arranged Marriages" the deletion of that practice has been seen in prior productions such as "Fiddler On The Roof" (one of my mom's favorites =) and "King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride" (1994 and a video game which I happened to complete jus this year! Played it on one of my stepbrother's Compaq Presario computers and had been HOOKED to the idea of completing it since around age 11 or 12. =) Welp! ^_^ All done =3) However, the merge of characters who do not believe in "unexplained forces," and the tethers of time tied to a new direction in destiny thanks to "learning lessons" once-brought--
give this adventure a very fresh feel and a very great parallel is shared:

The protagonist learns that she herself has been just as selfish as her parents who are initially criticized
and the like is true-- the parents recognize once their sons and daughters voice their opinion... that they
indeed have equally been just as selfish in attempting to shape the lives of those coming after them.

Tradition is broken and an excellent tale of overcoming adversity to work together--
is met through the merging of a mutual understanding: to each their own. =)

But not before quite the adventure!

- Laws & Long Shots -

The timeline of events in this animated film do indeed present the idea that "change is on the way."

From a father thinking enough of his first-born daughter to present her with the gift of a Bow & Arrow
(which is inferred by the story to generally be a thing only given to young men); to a mother who is adamant
about teaching that very same child's heart-and-mind lessons of unexplainable forces and mythological tales
based in a physically un-provable past; to Merida herself forging her own path utilizing all elements she has
learned from her own life including the laws of the land as a means to compete for her own decision in destiny--indeed is quite something to see!

Merida's father believes enough in his child to allow her to make her own choices. The present.
Merida's mother believes enough in her child to teach her what had come before her. The past.
Merida herself believes enough in her own soul to guide the way through either of these. The future.

Each of these elements seem to guide not only her (represented by Will-o-the-wisps)
but the fates of her own immediate family, several families forged from past, and an unproven (initially) legend of all.
The domino effect of...

A father who gives gift of bow-and-arrow but who simply does not believe in unseen forces...
A mother who gives lessons of past driven by passion (...she sometimes speaks to a sleeping student ^_^)...
And a child who does not desire to be as either of her parents who she essentially is happy with--
leads to a quarrel and overcoming of a great threat from the past which leads to a brand new future. =)

Laws & Long Shots indeed do contribute to our "Tapestry of Existence" of which the theme of this film opens very well with. =)
The varying elements that make up our world within or beyond the World of The Play (film, video game, book, stageplay, radio, etc.)
is very well shaped in this Summer 2012 release!

- Showcase Summary -

In my seat at the Theatre, surrounded about the room at the ending there was great applause! =)
This film does verily well indeed illicit this! =)

For those who wish to view this film in-theatre (and likely later via Blue-Ray) be certain to catch the Pixar
pre-story "LaLuna" which is a 10-miute or so short story that emphasizes through action rather than dialogue.
Also sit down for the after-credit's scene that implies the possibility of a "continued story." =)

Indeed BRAVE is a "Bonding Ten" and a VERY strong story laced with great wisdom for those who take time to venture and view the merging of might-of-the heart and might-of-unexplainable forces in this fabulous film and tell-tale of the freedom of choice for viewers who are as the title of this film: BRAVE!

Peace & Love! ^_~*

P.S.
- A Surprise In My Dream! O.O -

This is indeed the very first time that after watching a film one of the characters from that film appeared in my dream! o.o
[I also dreamed about Sprinkles and Doughnuts! =3 It was a good dream though. =)]

This dream was "G-Rated" but and very pleasant mind you. =) I also recall speaking to my oldest Stepbrother some 10 years or so
after this point-in-time and we talked about how one of my nephews (His son) had already moved out and how my niece (his daughter)
was the only one living with him. o.o

My eldest stepbrother currently lives in California and so perhaps this was some kind of a Long Distance Future-thought
dream or something viewing a movie like this inspired? o.o (I'm currently unmarried)
Really don't know but it was a very good dream. Very pleasant . =) Our conversation was very bonding.

Generally when I dream about characters, they are often my own characters.
I seldom dream of celebrities or public figures. (when I was 18, I asked my college Japanese Class
"What is a celebrity?" believe it or not! XD When the story got to my Spanish class at Darton they wondered
if I ever watched TV or read newspapers! XD Actually... I did both at the time. =) Simply just didn't know! =3)
When I usually dream it's in terms of allegories and symbols--usually. But this appeared in my dreams!

For this reason, I personally will likely not forget this amazing film. ^_^ Suggest You view BRAVE too! =D
Peace! And thanks for reading my movie review for the amazing Walt Disney/Pixar release of BRAVE!
